This year marked our 10th anniversary of supporting Wear It Pink day for Breast Cancer Now, the UK's largest breast cancer charity.
Our fundraising total of £336 for 2025 takes our donations to almost £3,500 in the 10 years we've been backing the charity.
Our support was first instigated by HR Manager Carole Hamnett-Sadler, but the cause has been championed by our Marketing Manager, Kenika Gumbs, for the past three years.
And Kenika certainly went to town on the day, sporting a huge pink flamingo suit as encouragement for the best outfit competition, which was won by Web Developer Stuart Rose, who braved the chilly weather in a small sleeveless vest, short shorts, pink bunny ears and pink wristbands, while other staff went for a more conservative approach in pink t-shirts, shirts and blouses.
Home-made and donated cakes and goodies helped to swell the coffers on the day, but behind all the fun, there's a very serious purpose, as these figures from Breast Cancer Now reveal:
- About 55,000 women (and 370 men) are diagnosed with breast cancer every year in the UK
- Breast cancer is the UK's most common cancer with one woman diagnosed every 10 minutes
- One in seven women in the UK will develop breast cancer in their lifetime
- Over 61,000 people are living with secondary breast cancer in the UK
To date, Breast Cancer Now has invested £299 million in breast cancer research and is currently funding over 100 cutting-edge projects to discover how to prevent breast cancer, save lives, and help people to live well with and beyond the disease.
Kenika says: "Supporting good causes is a regular priority here at HPP. Whilst Wear It Pink creates lots of laughs and banter, we never forget it's an important opportunity to spread breast cancer awareness and empower / support those affected by it."
