A team of HPP staff from across the UK recently travelled to Austria to see the latest products, manufacturing and training developments at furniture fittings specialist Blum.
The HPP group consisted of national contracts manager Shaun Nolan, area sales managers Steve Taggart (Scotland & North England), Lee Andrews (East Midlands) and Shankar Das (North West & South Wales); Blum product champion and technical advisor Mark Smith, purchasing administrator Matt Barber and marketing manager Dan Mounsey.
Dan said: "We and other key clients were invited by Blum UK to visit Blum's plants in the Vorarlberg area of western Austria. Flying into Zurich and travelling by coach, we visited five Blum sites and saw a range of activities including the manufacture of products such as hinges and drawer boxes. We also looked at Blum's logistics operation, including automation, and gained a good insight into Blum's apprenticeship scheme.
"Blum is an impressive business with an £1.8billion turnover. All of its manufacturing is done in Austria with additional assembly work, when required, carried out elsewhere, including in North and South America. All activities across the company are conducted in-house: there is no out-sourcing. All machinery, facilities and innovations are managed within Blum itself. It was a very interesting trip and thanks to Blum UK for inviting us."
