In the current climate of washing hands, using sanitiser and trying not to touch things, it's reassuring that some surfaces are helping in the effort to stay safe.
Egger's melamine resin surfaces in their Decorative Collection 2020-22 are tested according to ISO 22196 and have high antibacterial* properties. This means that there are over 200 décors, from woodgrain, uni-colour and material options, that will go some way to helping create a more hygienic environment.
No additional substances or surface preparation is required to enhance the antibacterial properties; they meet the ISO standards at no extra cost.
As well as being antibacterial, MFC boards are easy to maintain & keep clean, perfect for a wide range of applications including offices, labs, schools, universities, restaurants, kitchens, bedrooms and bathrooms.
The Egger Worktops Collection 2020, part of the Decorative Collection, also features high antibacterial properties, tested to the same exacting standards under ISO 22196. This gives the reassurance that there is no need to make compromises to interior design when specifying a hygienic surface. With 34 décors, four thicknesses (16, 25, 38mm postformed & 38mm square edged) and two profiles, they not only look good but are also hygienic, easy to clean and stylish.
Measurement Of Antibacterial Activity On Plastics Surfaces And Other Non-Porous Surfaces
The ISO 22196 method is designed to quantitatively test the ability of plastics to inhibit the growth of microorganisms (Bacteriostatic) or kill them (Bactericidal), over a 24 hour period of contact. It is a relatively sensitive test, meaning that it can detect low-level antimicrobial effects exerted over long periods of time.
*COVID-19 is a virus and therefore not covered by this evaluation standard. However, resin surfaces are easy to clean with suitable sanitisers to ensure, as much as possible, that they are free from bacterial and viral contaminants.
