Carole Hamnett-Sadler - HR Manager

Role at HPP: HR Manager

Year joined HPP: 1998

In the industry since: 1998

What does your role involve?
As HR Manager I have two main occupational purposes; to manage employees and to ensure our staff are well trained in their role and happy with their work environment.

This requires solid communication skills and thought processes to carry out all necessary HR functions, including training and development, recruitment, employment law, PPE, and payroll duties.

I am also known as the HPP Agony Aunt due to my listening skill and my ability to give good quality life advice!

Best thing about working for HPP?
I enjoy the diversity in my role as HR Manager.

My work is largely based around people management, and because people are all so different, so are the tasks that arise from working with them. As the company grows, we are recruiting more and more staff, which results in an increasingly diverse range of issues and challenges.

This ever-changing environment keeps me busy and means that every day is different at HPP!

Your biggest challenge since starting at HPP?
My biggest challenge has definitely been learning and implementing the HR function here at HPP.

I was initially employed as a Senior Credit Controller, but with the growth of the company, the HR department became essential.

I embraced this new challenge to create and develop a variety of new and robust staff management systems to fall in line with current legislation, and although it was hard work, I have thoroughly enjoyed it.

Biggest market challenges you foresee?
Due to the nature of my job role, I have little involvement with products and market trends.

However, for me personally, the biggest upcoming challenges will come with the continued growth of the company and the changes in employment law, which will inevitably result in an increase in staff members and changes to existing management systems.

What did you do before coming to HPP?
I previously worked as an Area Coordinator for Betterware. This saw me managing and guiding a team of 18 community distributors.

Any hidden talents?
I have a real passion for making a difference and therefore, in my spare time, I work as a part time carer.

This gives me a great sense of personal satisfaction, knowing I have made a positive difference to someone's day.

Favourite hobby?
I am a Season Ticket Holder for our local football team - Oldham Athletic FC.

It's great to see our local team play and be able to socialise with friends at the same time.

Favourite Film?
I love the film Dirty Dancing.

I think the combination of music, romance and dancing makes for a great watch!

Dream holiday destination?
I am happy to holiday any place, any time! It's always nice to just get away from the day-to-day and experience something new and different.

Biggest lesson in life?
Be happy (don't get married!).
